Welcome to Goldrick Elementary School. I am proud to be a part of this Goldrick community—we have amazing teachers, dedicated families, and brilliant students!
At Goldrick, we want to ensure that every student has the support they need to be readers, writers, mathematicians, and scientists. As a school, we have a focus on your children’s developing literacy skills—and, for many of our students—biliteracy in English and Spanish! Each day, your student will receive two hours of literacy instruction through fun, thematic units in which they both learn to read and write and learn about the world around them. Students are learning about topics like space, seasons, the US Civil War, the human body, and ancient civilizations. Ask your student to tell you what they are learning about in literacy — they have a lot to share. We also have a dedicated block of time for students to practice specific reading skills in small groups. If you want more information about how your child is reading, and how you can support them at home, please reach out to me or your child’s teacher!
We know that an important part of elementary education is not just academic learning, but also social and emotional learning. We want to equip all our Goldrick students with skills to understand, name and regulate their emotions, set personal boundaries and be a good friend, and understand and celebrate their multiple identities.
With that in mind, you are invited to be an active participant at Goldrick. Whether you are a classroom volunteer, a member of the Collaborative School Committee (CSC), attend our English Language Acquisition Parent Advisory Council (ELA PAC) meetings, or help with special events, you are encouraged to be involved! Research on schools clearly demonstrates that parent participation in their child’s school coincides with a greater likelihood of academic success for their child.
We want to keep you informed of all that is taking place at school. Up-to-date information will be sent to you through the PawPrint Newsletter that comes home each Friday, as well as via the Goldrick website and Goldrick Facebook page.
If you have questions or concerns that arise at any time, please do not hesitate to give your child’s teacher or me a call. I look forward to having a long and rewarding relationship with you and your family.
Sincerely,
Taryn Rawson
